Movie Feature Friday: The Preview

A major question us movie buffs are used to hearing when we come out to our peers is a common one.
“What is your favorite movie?”
You movie buffs and silver screen surfers know that this is not an easy question to answer. One may have five favorites. Maybe ten. Maybe even more. The sky is the limits when you think of it. With hundreds of great movies debuting each year, much like recent ones such as Deadpool or Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a new favorite is bound to sneak its way into your heart eventually.
So to answer the question of what’s my favorite movie… There are a lot. That’s where the idea of Favorite Feature Friday comes in.

With Favorite Feature Friday, each Friday starting next week, I’ll take you viewers into my world, and give you guys a brief view of one of my favorite movies, a tad more fleshed out than today.
Giving all you movie fans a preview, I will be starting with is the fantastically magical film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
This film, an adaptation of the third installment of the bestselling Harry Potter series, follows a thirteen year old Harry Potter as he attends his third year of the school of witchcraft and wizardry, Hogwarts. Throughout this third year, the wizarding world is plagued with the paranoia of the first escaped convict of the wizarding prison of Azkaban, with suspicions of him pursuing the young Harry Potter.
This film grips me, beyond being a Potterhead, due to the darker tone, aided by the inclusion of various dark creatures, much like the soul-sucking dementors of Azkaban, as well as a particularly loveable werewolf transformation. I’m a real sucker for movie monster.
For a more in depth review of this third installment of the Harry Potter franchise, check out Dark Horizons' movie review.
Starting next week, you can expect a more in depth personal review, as well as another fantastic movie to come.
Before I go off to watch another movie, tell me:
“What’s one of your favorite movies?”

Until next
week movie buffs.

A Picture for Thought

One of the most captivating aspects of the world of movies is their ability to immerse one within their worlds. When one is immersed, they're transplanted into the world of the film, or in other cases, books and video games. This feeling gives one a sense of closeness, or exhilaration beyond the realm of the mundane world.

This brings me to the photo at hand.

I believe this photo does a great job of representing immersion in a creative sense.

Though one cannot take a picture of one's personal immersion, we can all relate to the feeling. Every new film, book, video game, or whatever other creative outlet you choose can place you in a new world in which you can be someone completely different, or see things in a whole new perspective.

With the power of immersion, your mind is a whole universe of new worlds. With each new movie, or new planet in your universe, you're able to see a new cast of characters, or experience a new environment through the windows of your mind.

My question to you, the reader, is simple.

How do you immerse yourself? Do you place yourself into the world of movies with each new film you watch? Maybe you curl up on the couch and read a new book.

Also, what sort of thoughts does this photo evoke in you?

The ability of immersion is a valuable aspect in life, allowing us to shed the pains of normalcy in order to put ourselves in a world beyond the scope of the mundane.

So take the time, kick off your shoes, and immerse yourself into a new world today.

About JDunn Movies

Welcome… To JDunn Movies.

My name is Jared Dunn, and I, first and foremost, am a lover of movies. That being said, this blog shall be a place where I will review newer movies, in hopes that I can steer you all towards finding a new favorite.

Throughout my life I have indulged and dreamt of various avenues in life, from wanting to be a chef, to zoology, even at one point wanting to be a teacher. In the end, it always points back to movies.
This, like most stories, point back to my childhood. Hardly three feet tall, little Jared sat down in front of a screen, only to be mesmerized by one of my favorite movies, to this date…

It was at this time that I began to idolize the silver screen, and the various stories that continued to draw me into their various universes. The immersion into these visual tales gave me a new outlook on life, shaping me into a different person with each new story under my belt.

As a child I wanted to be a paleontologist not because I loved dinosaurs (Though I absolutely did), but because I’d seen the riveting story of Dr. Grant escaping the onslaught of dinosaurs within the park.

I wanted to be a zoologist because of documentaries I experienced.

I’ve even mulled the idea of being an astronaut from time to time. Fortunately, I can always refer
back to Alien after the next space odyssey I watch.

Fortunately for me, everything has begun to come full cycle, and I have shaped my pathway towards what I truly love. You may have guessed it. Movies.

Rather than the excitement of dinosaurs and space, I have stepped a foot into the safe world of movies, having worked in places such as movie theaters and rental stores, I now strive to help introduce people to the wonderment of movies.

Using the English major I am working towards, with all my might, I hope to not only review movies, which is the aim of this blog, but I’d like to, someday, write a movie of my own.  My dream is to immerse people into a new world of my own creation, and give them a taste of a world beyond their own.

So join me in the world of movies as I give you a nudge toward a movie you may not think you’d like, or are just not sure about. You may be surprised by the gems that are waiting for you.
